How it is selected & specified.
External ultrasonic tank level gauges are selected when the buyer wants level measurement without opening the tank. The sensor is installed outside the vessel or coupled to the tank wall depending on the selected design.
This is not a universal product. Double-wall tanks, lined tanks, heavily corroded walls, thick insulation, internal structures, bubbles and unsuitable acoustic coupling can prevent reliable measurement.
The product is often considered for diesel tanks, fuel tanks, water tanks and selected chemical storage where the tank wall is compatible and the measurement objective is retrofit indication or alarm.
