Open-channel ultrasonic level and flow meters measure the liquid head above a known hydraulic structure and convert that level into flow. They are used in wastewater plants, industrial discharge channels, irrigation channels and process water outlets.
The product is different from a simple tank level meter. A successful quote needs the flume or weir type, throat width, crest geometry, maximum and minimum flow, mounting height and whether the user needs totalized flow.
The sensor should be mounted where the water surface is stable and upstream/downstream conditions match the primary structure requirements. Foam, turbulence, falling water and poor bracket alignment can create measurement error.
